How the Compound interest calculator works
This calculator compounds your interest monthly. Each month, interest is calculated on your running balance — including interest already earned — then any regular contribution is added before the next month’s interest is calculated.
The gap between “total contributed” and “future value” is the interest your money has earned. The longer your timeframe, the larger that gap tends to become, since earlier interest keeps earning its own interest.
Frequently asked questions
Compound interest is interest calculated on both your original amount and the interest it has already earned, so growth accelerates over time compared with simple interest.
